Is this money well spent, or should we not bother what conditions we send our foreign criminals back to?

By March this year, there were 11,127 behind bars, at an estimated cost to the UK public purse of more than £420million. This is up from 10,778 in 2011[i

[i]The group, which includes rapists, murderers and burglars, now makes up more than one in every eight convicts[i]

[i]Mr Cameron was taking part in a radio phone-in when a pensioner called to tell him it was wrong that she was denied a cancer drug while billions were spent on overseas aid]

£3m? G4S made a profit of £450m last year, where do you think most of that came from? Clue they run our jails
According to Wikipedia G4S are the third largest company in the world with 657,000 employees in 125 countries, so I dont think they may that 450 million pounds profit JUST from running our jails.
It's not about making foreign jails 'more comfortable' per se. It's about making them more like our jails and thereby removing any objections being raised about the conditions sentences have to be served in once the miscreant is returned to their homeland.

Freeing up space in our prisons surely is a good thing?
I think the point still stands that £3 million is a very samll amount compared with the overall budget of £4 billion on gaols

Much as I hate to praise the government it looks very sensible to me and I think the Mails onto a loser with this particular attempt to stir up indignant anger
this so that they can be sent abroad without being able to challenge it on human rights grounds. I would have thought you'd love the idea?
Will they have

Laptops, Warmth, 3 meals a day, accommodation paid for with a wage, Visits, at time's, Time alone with their loved ones?????? Health clubs

Like ours do?
sadly £3 million wouldn't pay for 'cancer drugs' for many people

or pay for a new prison building

It seems like a very sensible (and modest) investment to free up UK jails and safely ship foreign criminals home
Our prisons are full. If we were to build more prisons, it would cost a lot more than £3million. Better to export foreign criminals. The alternative is for rapists and robbers to serve shorter sentences which I assume you wouldn't want either.
If foreign prisons don't match up to our higher standards that is their problem. Maybe the human rights people should sort them out not putting it on our shoulders. If the prisoners are from that country they should no what to expect.
pdq

they were convicted in our courts - their punishment is our responsibility.

most people wouldn't be prepared to shirk that responsibility
