I've heard several celebrities stating that they have been to various events during the games .

So how come they have had tickets to multiple events , when it has been a lottery for Joe Bloggs as to whether we got a single ticket ; never mind multiple tickets ?

it would appear to be stuff the peasants and toady to the rich.
It comes with the territory of not being Joe Bloggs
I tried 3 times to get tickets for olympic events to no avail. It does make my blood boil when I see these so called celebs at these events.
I did not approve of the ticketing system at all.
Corporate games, organised by the rich, for the rich and the taxpayers picking up the bill.
maybe they got lucky in the lottery too?
They probably applied for more than joe bloggs

I was lucky enough to get tickets and I only applied for 5 events
I applied for two and got one, so I'm happy. But jno jnr is being implored to go and fill up seats for free, so he's as lucky as any celeb.
It's probably because companies like EDF as sponsors are able to demand a huge issue of tickets - and then passing them on to VIPs.
It's not what you know it's who you know.

It makes for better tv having a celebrity photographed in the crowd rather than a nobody from on here.

I've boycotted the Olympics anyway. It has just been about money for anyone from those selling tickets to those providing accommodation. Even those winning medals are laughing and smiling because they know they are set up for life. The medal is a meal ticket and no more.
It's not "what you know", but "who you are".
It seems that blocks of tickets were allocated to different countries, businesses, corporate events, and they didn't bother to turn up or return them to be redistributed.
there were plenty of the £2012 tickets left - perhaps the celebs bought them
I'd be extremely surprised if the "celebs" paid for any tickets. They usually do not and are provided with them, as suggested, by sponsors. It's noo use moaning about it. Most popular sporting events have been completely taken over by corporate sponsors because the money they bring is the only way that major events can be staged. And that's because of the ludicrous sums paid to the participants. I know the Olympics are different in that the competitors are not richly rewarded but because of the ostentation which the organisors have to demonstrate to the world sponsors' cash (and their demand for tickets) is still required.
