Push the HDMI cable in further at both ends and give it a wiggle as they need to be all the way in. Sometimes they are quite stiff.
Turning your TV off and on again while leaving the PS3 on sometimes works.
If neither work post back as there is another option.

thanks for the post, still not working though. Could it be anything to do with the settings?
How were you previously receiving audio?
To me it suggests audio settings need adjusting but you say you have already done this.

i was using a standard scart lead
What is your current audio setting?

there's only a few settings to choose from it's normally hdmi but not working
Could be you need to use the AV button on your TV remote comtrol to select the line that your HDMI cable is coming out of. If this fails try putting console on without disc and go to options by selecting ps button.
Oddly enough I had the same problem with my samsung TV. I thought it might be the cables themselves or something to do with the PS3 however this was only part of the problem. It has to do with the kind of TV you have. PS3 audio only has output that works with certain kinds televisions. I suggest checking the Phillips website and finding the model you have. It'll explain a lot.
