There is an aggressive, in your face, aspect to red ink. Particularly when it's telling you that you work is dire.
Good on that local educational authority, I say .
Oh for goodness sakes !!!
>>> Pupils increasingly find that the ticks and crosses on their homework are in more soothing shades like green, blue, pink and yellow, or even in pencil.<<<

More soothing shades? What The Funicular? Never heard such p!sh in all my life.
I honestly don't know how I grew up in the NON politically correct world when I was a kid, without being harmed, I really don't !!!!
:-) maybe you're so damaged you can't see it.
And maybe you're not for real ....
>>> ‘We highlight bits that are really good in one colour and use a different colour to mark areas that could be improved.’ <<<

Forgive my ignorance but if the mistake is still being highlighted then what's the bl00dy difference? A mistake is a mistake irrespective of how it is pointed out.

Red pen is demotivating.....Shuttup!

Ok replace red with another colour, how long before that becomes in your face etc?
Sadly, this is true - or at least has been believed to be true by some teachers I know. This includes not adding a X, but a . instead when there is an error.

I wonder if it's real or a collective misinformation thing - maybe it's not true, but everyone involved believes it and carries on as if it was anyway and someone finally decides to make an actual rule about it in their school. Dodgy ground.
Forget the red pen, if the answer is wrong give them a good beating...........worked for me.
This 'news' story is from 2008.
Are you sure about that Craft?? :-)
Teachers and educationalists should be concentrating on the children's basic educational needs - like teaching them how to read, write, add up etc.

More time on the three Rs and less on cock and bull theories like this would see many more children being 'motivated' into leaving school with the ability to spell more than just their own name.
lol ummmm.....yes, I stopped going to school.
Do you know many people that can only spell their own name?
It was certainly true about ten years ago in my school. We were told no red ink or crosses. The skull and crossbones rubber stamp I bought didn`t go down well with the Head.
Kids can't spell or count but lets not demotivate them by pointing this out....and we wonder why 75% of the kids coming into the workplace are worse than useless!!

Went in to MacDonalds recently, the order came to £7.20 so I handed over a tenner and the 20p.....response..."you've given me far too much the £10 will cover it" I reply "yeah so just give me three pound coins back"....... " Sorry, you've given me too muchm how would giving you three pound coins back work????"...........
The aim is to and to try to stop children losing self confidence and giving up just because the confidence is below their ability.

I guess if your ability is below your self confidence you might have difficulty understanding this logic
Its why for young children rewarding positive results used to be seen as the way forward
Sorry Slapshot are you seriously judging a generation by the people serving you in McDonalds?

That's like me judging an older generation by the ability of the people found in the pub on a Tuesday afternoon!
