he used to go straight off to sleep at night - we haven't changed his routine at all, but now he jumps up and stands at the edge of his cot crying - and when we go up, he jumps around like its play time. any suggestions please? sorry for shortness of post - must go up and try to lie him back down again! xxx

As hard as it may be (and i have no kids so am not really qualified to help) but how about "self soothing" and just letting him cry? (obviously you are sure he is well etc) xx
Maybe he just isn't tired enough. Does he have naps in the daytime?
as a mum of 5 Id say its the light nites. Invest in a good quality black out blind, worked wonders when my youngest was a baby and started to disagree with the 7pm bedtime when it was still light outside.
I never found a solution to his early wake up calls though, he's 6 now and still a very early riser lol
I remember my neighbour having a blackout blind actually..good idea x
Black out blinds are awesome for grown ups too :)

thanks guys - maybe i should invest in one! he's actually gone off okay tonight - about 45 minutes after bedtime, which is a vast improvement on last night! xxxxx
I used to let mine play around in their cots till they fell asleep. They were not allowed to climb out or have toys in the cot other than a bedtime teddy or comforter . I would really try and ignore them because the more I went in the more attention they got and they played on it. Start good habits now. A black out blind or curtains is a very good idea.
we did the black out, book with shapes, then lie down and patting of the bum and later the back....15 minutes invested usually had them off (and occasionally me too)....

just like to say thanks to you all for the suggestions..... i haven't bought black out blinds yet, but i have been hanging blankets over the curtains to make the room a lot darker and, fingers crossed, he's back to being my lovely little sleepy angel again when we go up for beddy-byes. Thanks all xxxx
