Having just had a curious FB friend request pop up I'm wondering how easily located I am on FB, by those who don't know my current name that is.

Do people really trawl friends of friends of friends looking for someone they once shared a bag of chips with or sat next to on the school bus?

in short, yes.
Not in my case, no.

People pop up at the side as 'people you might know' from the people you have in common.
I like cake - will look anywhere for it :)

That's the odd thing Ummm, I don't have any friends in common, that I can see......not sure I want to join the mad stalking fraternity to work it out.

:-) @ Dave
You may have came up in the suggestions at the side....

Ive been added by a few because of that xx
If you think that's bad ou should try Twitter. I joined it and within minutes had 'people' following meh agent been back since.
Sherr i block them and report spam x
Sorry for the terrible typos ^
yea, people are that sad. Its very true what they say: you can be friends on facebook but then walk past each other on the street !
Interesting profile picture you have.
I have about 20 friends on Facebook and never get requests from people I don't know.
Does this mean I am a Billy No Mates?
Sometimes facebook do suggest people you have no one in common with. I get a couple of people pop up on a regular basis. I don't add them though :-)

I can't quite get my head around twitter. I'm tempted to join just so that I can attempt the world record for boring, banal tweets. Although judging by what I've seen the competition is pretty fierce!
Twitter is a bit different Sher. It has little auto bots that will follow new users and regularly if you happen to mention a certain product you'll find within a few hours you havea new follower that has something to do with that product. They search key words and follow anyone who mentions them.
I like twitter
Me too.
no do i heck.. i hardly look at my mates pages never mind mates of mates.... i do get people pop up who i have no one in common with but just ignore em or if they keep coming up i block em..... one reason this might happen is duplicate accounts..... i had someone on fb that i deleted and blocked and they come up in the side with no mutual friends and its a brand new account that wasnt even made when i deleted and blocked them....

I don't have a problem per se with twitter, I've seen it be used to good effect at work. From a personal perspective it just isn't my thing, I'd be more of a lurker than anything - waiting for Stephen Fry to announce a bowel movement or whatever.

Knowing that random people pop up in the sidebar as people you might want to be friends with is more reassuring. Presumably we both like Leonard Cohen and read New Scientist and that is how the association was made????
I set up a facebook account as Rocky Racoon, the only friend RR has is me proper, the only 'like' is AB, some of the suggestions I get are not friends of mine and I have a feelng some of them are a few of you lot on here.
facebook is a haven for stalkers, lurkers and dodgy folk, I love it sometimes, sometimes it causes trouble,
