Indian restaurants are almost always Bangladeshi. And the Bangladeshis working in them are almost always from one part of Bangladesh, Sylhet. Time for people originating from elsewhere in ( the old) India to complain about discrimination!

/// At peak times they do employ some young blond, blue eyed waiters and I must say it seems incongruous. ///

All good Aryan stock eh? Much better suited to a Beer Keller methinks.

But you could only claim discrimination if Indian restaurants actively refused to employ anyone but Indian/Bangladeshis.

exactly

I'm surprised we don't have more of them round here in Anglo-Saxon land

I suppose Weatherspoons is a bit like that
I used to go to a restaurant in the south of France, which I considered a fantastic French restaurant. It was only after I'd been going there a few times that I realised the French considered it to be an English restaurant............the chef was actually Swiss.
craft, I've had that experience. When I kept a place in Antibes, there was a restaurant in the town which was owned by two elderly ladies, one of whom did some of the cooking. They spoke perfect French without any foreign accent I could discern. Imagine my surprise when they addressed a tourist in perfect English with classic, old, county accents! They were British and had lived in the town for 50 years. When they started the restaurant they were both cooking, but by then were taking it easier.
