Congratulations to the french club Lyon. At half time they were losing 1-0 but needed to win by six goals to qualify for the next stage. They duly slotted in 7 goals in 30 minutes to beat dinamo Zagreb 1-7.

Well done the plucky french side and their no surrender attitude.

not many French players in the side then?
Incroyable!!
that doesn't sound dodgy in the slightest! It's not like any other Southern French teams have a history of underhand activities in this competition! ;)

// From that point onwards Lyon kept scoring. In all the French side netted seven goals in just over 28 minutes. That’s a goal every four minutes for those who do not possess good mathematical skills. Taking into account picking the ball up from the kick-off, players running back and the fact that Zagreb players will of course be in possession of the ball from the kick-off, it takes some doing to be that defensively inept.
Factor in the cheeky wink that a Zagreb player Domagoj Vida gives after one of the final goals, see image below. Factor in that for every single Lyon goal not a single challenge is made by a Zagreb defender. Factor in that Lyon have scored just two goals in their first five Champions League matches. Factor in that Lyon hadn’t scored in their last three Champions League matches. //
I smell, smelly cheese.
Does stink a bit,Gromit, makes you wonder about all Sport now.
What has gone on do you think?...Croatian players always struck me as to proud to take part in a stunt like that...smells like some person/s might land their dumb*sses in Court!
Je sens un rat ici.
I wonder if Gromit would have bothered to post this .... ups I nearly said 'question', if it had been an English team?

No, I don't think he would have bothered to, and not even in the 'Sport' topics, where it belongs.

AOG

The story is in all of todays NEWSpapers, even the Daily Mail.

If the suspicious result had been from an English team, I would have posted the same question. But instead of your stupid comment above, you would probably accused me of being anti-English.

Atrollop,

I just read AOGs comment again. I think he may have objected to me congratulating the french side, and commented I would not do it for an English one (because he perceives me as anti-English. Of course the 'well done' was used in an ironical way, which seems to have gone over his head.
Ohhhh ;-)
No real emotion from the French when they score, they knew it was going to happen. Hope Ajax don't let it drop!
It's not very often you see the words 'French' and 'no surrender' in the same sentence

The result itself stinks, I guess Zagrebs players will be having a nice Christmas now
I've not seen the press today and I did wonder at the time if anyone would think it suspicious.
Mind you anything dodgy would probably have had to be arranged at half time, because up until then there was no guarantee Ajax would lose, and even then ...

I'd have more sympathy for Ajax if they'd gone out winning. As it was they were stuffed.
