Of course, if it had been a group of Moslems singing "You can stick your ******* Christmas up your ****" at good old John Terry and the Chelsea Carollers and Choristers then no one would have dared say anything etc etc etc ...:-)
Well I know exactly what they mean, but seeing that these days one has to be so very careful not to get a law-suit around one's neck, for speaking one's mind, I will leave you to guess yourselves.

/// the police are to investigate his alleged racial abuse of Anton Ferdinand. ///

I can't believe it, we have witnessed riots and looting on the streets of London, we have almost anarchy on the streets of London, and gun and knife crime is almost a daily occurrence on the streets of London.

But what seems to be given priority by our police? the fact that one highly paid footballer has insulted (not abused) another highly paid footballer, aren't these individuals man enough and able to sort out their differences without one of them involving the police?

Even the questioner feels free to insult Chelsea supporters by calling them 'Morons', so what's the difference they are only words aimed to upset certain individuals, with no physical damage done whatsoever.

In the heat of the moment and on being hurt ourselves haven't we all burst out with words intended to upset those who have upset us, and then later wish we hadn't done so?

If we reported these insulter's to the police, they would most likely charge us with wasting police time.
"we have almost anarchy on the streets of London"

nah... we have Christmas shoppers on the streets of London. And now they're even letting people back into St Paul's. It's quite a civilised town, really.
but aog these aren't just any morons, they are white right wing racist fascist homophobic violent chelsea-supporting morons.
Leaving aside the tautology in the OP.......

There is a well-funded and well-supported campaign to 'Kick Racism out of football/sport'. As it ill-behoves the former England Football captain to be even accused of such comments, I imagine JT welcomes the opportunity to clear himself of these allegations, in full media spotlight.
"Of course, if it had been a group of Moslems singing "You can stick your ******* Christmas up your ****"

Does that happen often then?
well there is the annual 'ban christmas in birmingham' thingymajig that always makes the headlines in the daily mail.
rojash - I think that ichkeria was joking, referencing the usual response that emanates from certain quarters the moment...oh hang on...I can see the point has already been proven.
Hands up who thinks the police didn't make any arrests after the riots earlier this year.

Hands up who thinks the police don't take gun and knife crime seriously.

Literally amazing innit.
Thanks sp1814. The problem with irony and sarcasm is that they only work if the person reading the response has a clue as to the personality of the poster.

There are so many posters on AB now, that I have a problem keeping track of which are the intelligent ones, especially as (as demonstrated in a later post) there are some who say equally stupid things but mean them to be taken seriously. :-)
jackthehat

It depends on what you mean as regards 'kicking racism out of football/sport'?

Is it any difference to a few hundred footballer supporters shouting out insults to a black player, as it is to a referee, Manager or some other player that happens to have upset the crowd for some reason or other?

For example there was once a footballer called Bill Gorman, who played for Brentford 1939 to 1950, and who was completely bald by the time he was nineteen, this was at a time when it wasn't the fashion to be bald.

What I am getting at by all this, is although he was bald through, no fault of his own, he was always the subject of ridicule from some of the crowd especially when he headed a muddy ball and the muddy impression showed on his bald head.

But he just had to put up with that, no running to the police in those days.

But on a one to one confrontation, between two players on the pitch, the referee is there to take action against any abuse.
"Is it any difference to a few hundred footballer supporters shouting out insults to a black player, as it is to a referee, Manager or some other player that happens to have upset the crowd for some reason or other"

of course it is, unless the referee is black and they are calling him an effing black ****.

although its a fair argument to drag up the 30s and 50s, the days when racism was more or less expected and often encouraged.
Yes, it is different.

It is no longer acceptable, by decent people, to make crass comments about someones race.

Anything else you mentioned is not comparable.
JTH - it confuses me when people try to compare gingerness or baldness or some other physical trait with racism.

It's like comparing anti-semitism with someone being taunted for being overweight.

Quite odd.
On ''Pointless '' there are often sneering references to the French and the Germans. Is this not Racism ?
bald people have feelings too jth.

usually from baldy slaps and being tango'd. but sometimes the feeling is nice.

Black French and Germans? Yes, it's racism.

French and Germans? No........they are Nationalities.
dunno, brionon were the germans and french being sneered at specifically black germans and black french ? or was it germans and french as a whole ?
/// of course it is, unless the referee is black and they are calling him an effing black ****. ///

/// It is no longer acceptable, by decent people, to make crass comments about someone's race.///

Conflicting arguments here, let's get it straight is it about 'race' or is it about having a 'black' skin?

Since there are many races in the world and all have a wide range of different skin tones, it must then be all about having a 'Black' skin, but no there are also many different shades of black, and no it can't be about that also, because it is obvious that black persons are proud to be black.

So what is it all about? I can see that no one should be discriminated against or physically abused because they are black or even white or any other colour in between for that matter, but using the colour of one's skin in amongst other personal insults, I just cannot see how this turns an insult into a 'unlawful' insult.

Would it be equally unacceptable and therefore unlawful to use the word 'white' in amongst the insulting words?

Just asking, and before I get any insults for failing to understand all this, perhaps one of you would care to explain it fully to me, and I don't mean from a political correct point of view?
