I'm surprised that Mr Frost had to look it up. I would've thought that most people know this phrase? The report doesn't state what term he used for the white rioters in Manchester.

Without any doubt ,this term is highly offensive, and racist
Bob Frost is a disgrace, and should leave his council -forthwith!
I wouldn't think you could get more rascist than referring to people as Jungle Bunnies!!
Of course it is! The term *** was commonly used to define African Americans in the us in the 1960's. Blacks were first knick-named 'Jungle Bunnys' the police to describe them inaccurately "All coming from jungles and hiding like 'scared bunnies' whenever police officers were present. Over time, the two words were joined into one another. You'd of thought terms like this would've been outdated by now but this just proves that racism is still rife.
I've never heard of it before - but I think that I lead a sheltered life in my little corner of the UK.

Lol, sorry wolf not you, that was the starred out word in my post.
wrong - It would be the nearest thing to a bunny girl that I would ever get. :-)
Lol.
it is racist, he withdrew it and apologised.

job done.
My word that was an elaborate attempt at digging himself out of it! So he just stumbled upon the phrase accidentally by calling the rioters cuddly little cute things of the urban jungle!?... righto, that sounds legit!!
I've never heard of it before. I guess like most terms, it's racist if someone says it is.
What a tool! If it wasn't bad enough that he used that phrase, his ridiculous excuses make him look even worse. Does anyone know exactly what his facebook post actually said?
The pieces of scum who took part in the riots, killings and looting don't deserve any consideration or any particular exception from name calling, be them white, black or brown.

For example one should feel free to call a white piece of scum who took part in these riots, any name whatsoever, be it racist or otherwise, but it doesn't mean one is attaching that same name to innocent whites.

Therefore in this particular case I can see no reason whatsoever why any innocent black person should be offended by what their criminal brothers are called.
Sad to say that I am not only familiar with the expression, but that said offending councillor is from my neck of the woods. The local paper describes that it's not the first time he's been in trouble with non-PC gaffes on Facebook and similar - as a publicly funded council person, he should know better. (well, perhaps he will now, if they boot him out).

Based on Old Git's dubious excuse for this example of thoughtless racism, if any of the rioters are found to be jewish it would be ok to refer to them as 'sub-human y1ds fit only for the gas chamber'.

Old Git will no doubt reassure us that in his opinion no sensible jewish person would find that offensive.
Many blacks were treated like animals in America as well as here with the term Jungle bunnie being one amongst many to put them down with. Your saying lets dredge up old racist words used to put down those that committed crimes? What an odd thing to say. What about those that are law abiding and are trying to forget a horrid past, what crime have they committed for us to hurt them with these words?
I am really surprised that any older members of AB haven't heard the term before since it has been around since the 60's and was used frequently.

And Triggs you are right. The fact is that Frost used a rascist word to describe the rioters. This also indicates to me that he was being deliberately rascist. If a gang of white hooligans were called 'White Scum' by someone in authority then I bet you would be complaining AOG. And not all the rioters were black
