as far as i know incapacity benefit stops (as it's supposed to be for people who can't work and if you are of retirement age, you aren't expected to work) but DLA continues

My Mum's 80, retired years ago but still gets DLA.

All I know is that if you don't get it before 65 you can't get it after. Just when you are likely to need it, it is no longer available. The only benefit you can get is Attendance Allowance. Mobility Allowance is not available either. Strange reasoning, IMO.
