Bill is nearing the big 70 on the 13th of this month, I have no idea what to buy him to put in the case when we go to Portugal on the 11th.
Any ideas?

nice thought Star but he may not fit into them...lol
Why don't you just treat him to a slap up dinner when you get out there? (which part are you going to?) OH and I have stopped buying presents and instead we either use the money for things we'll both enjoy, so a meal or a trip (often involved rugby!) or theatre... when we were in Tenerife we went to a Flamenco extravaganza. There must be some big trip where you are going, a mediaeval banquet or something like that?

we are going to Cabanas boxy, this is a very small fishing village on the Algarve, we were there 3 yrs ago and Bill adored the tranquility and always wanted to return there,
we will be having a lovely meal that evening, there are four of us, because it's a biggie as in his 70th, I was hoping to get something really special for him to keep
get a local artist to paint a picture of the area for him or even a portrait.
That's a nice idea, carmalee.
Question Author
now that is a great idea carmalee, I will keep my eyes open to see if there is any of that happening, it was virtually untouched and doesn't have the usual street vendors and sand sculptors as so many places have
expensive but you are only 70 once, a gold hunter watch. A keepsake for him and family. look around at good jewellers, better still antique shops as they are the best place for them, have it inscribed.
bobbi, it might be worth looking on-line now for something like old framed prints of the local area which you could buy in the UK and take with you.
Question Author
em, thanks for the idea but I bought him a very expensive watch, which name now escapes me, for his 65th
oh yes, it's a Longines? probably the wrong spelling..sorry
Question Author
I am going to do that boxy, brilliant idea but as we all know now, we are restricted in weight from those airlines, never the less, an idea worth exploring, thank you
A painting/portrait is a very good idea, the Hunter watch is not one you wear on your wrist, but in your pocket, like grandfathers used to have. If you bought him a longnines, not sure of spelling, then you must have shelled out a lot. Good luck.
Question Author
em, I didn't know that about the watch being a pocket one, sounds fabulous, yes the Longines watches are very expensive but he's worth it :-)
my bloke 30th this month. Im not getting him anything

never spoke for a bit, is the job still going well?
brilliant! Had my appraisal last week, and she said shd was amazed how quickly and how well i fit in.
Question Author
wow that is great 4get, it seems an eon away when you were feeling really down about not finding a job, I am so pleased it has worked out this way for you and long may it continue x
you can buy a half hunter or full hunter, with classic dial, and fob chain, as said its a keepsake, and you could have a nice inscription. If i find a pic i will attempt to post it. if someone bought me one i would be over the moon, as i have wanted one for years. Never gold plated, has to be gold or nothing.
been there 9 months now
Question Author
I will take a look if you can find the pictures em. thanks for your help and ideas btw
