I used to be a telex operator. Not many of those around these days I think.
presumably typists are data-inputting
Are Saggar maker's bottom knockers still in employment?
Some companies and organisations still employ typists, but largely it is a redundant job since the personal computer became popular in the workplace.

I should imagine that footplate-men are now restricted to historical railways.
And there's not as many Coalmen around as there used to be.
sandyRoe - sadly not.

Almost all pottery manufacture is outsourced these days, and modern techinuqes make the sagger redundant - along with the sagger-maker, and ergo, his bottom-knocker.

sad ...
To be honest all jobs that can be off shored will be things of the past in the next ten years ...

Remember IT Support Staff , before they all went to Asia ...South America...Thailand
Remember Call centre staff ....
Remember Bank cashiers , before it all went online
Remember when everyone had full time jobs , rather than working part time in the local Tesco
I think that unless large corporations are forced to employ a certain % in the place where they do most business, then as an employer of skilled people the UK is doomed.

Even the local council are sourcing IT staff to India
Coalman
Man who used to collect money from Gas/Electric Meter
Insurance Man who used to come round and collect premiums
Park Keepers
There are no Parking Attendants left............DEN has scared them all away !!! lol
Redman - hahaha - as long as they can run fast, I won't hit them (:o)
Clippies on the buses
I went to the Missing Persons Bureau but no one was there.
Clippies still a few in central london for the tourists....
addressograph operators
gestetner duplicating machines
and punch card workers for data input...OMG that shows my age I've done 3 out of 4 of the above... never a clippy but I did work for London transport
Redman, can you remember the last time you saw a clippie on a crosville bus?
Flight engineers.
I phoned Samaritans once and got a recorded message saying there was no-one there to take my call...laughed so much I changed my mind
Miners are a dying breed. Thanks to you know who however, the are plenty of resources left in the ground.
