The teacher was sacked because he physically restrained him by grabbing his arms and left some marks! Oh dear, must be assault then! How pathetic. Oh yes he was a 15 year old boy with 'special needs'. What does that mean? I will translate, it means a naughty child, simple as that, same as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Another label to excuse bad behavior.

Special Educational Needs
I didn't say you made it up - I know it was a recognised and accepted term, it isn't any more.
Before ESN was an accepted term, so was "idiot" and "cretin" - maybe you think these words should be brought back too ?
I would not be a teacher even if I were offered a footballer's salary. It is a thankless task and whatever you do is wrong. Even the supporting staff are 'punished'. A friend of mine gave up being a dinner lady because she was not allowed to help and comfort a child who fell in the playground. It's carrying things too far isn't it? Apparently she would have been accused of assault.

Btw "SEN" is not a "silly made up term" it is in modern usage, whether you like it or not.

You can say what you think of me if it helps, I can take as good as I give ;-)

Ok, time to hold my hand up and say that if a child with such destructive behavior was in a classroom with my child, i too would be deeply unhappy and to be blunt, i wouldn't care whether he or she had behavioral problems or not. That wouldn't be my concern, my concern would be that my own child's education would be disruptive by this one child. With that in mind, how should a teacher respond to such a pupil? Is is fair to the other children to have their classes disrupted in such a way? Would it be simpler and easier, all round, if children with these problems were educated separately?
Idiot, cretin and moron were recognised categories of mental deficiency in the early 20C. I think "idiot" was at the bottom of the spectrum.

Ah here we go, it was only a matter of time before you used the old "PC" cop out.
You don't *have* to be a "PC brigade" type or a "hand wringing liberal" to accept more tolerant and better thought out ways of dealing with situations like this.
Maybe YOU need a modernisation check.
