I didn't realise that there are problems with some over the Scottish Census Form?

Perhaps the powers that be could also demand that all Call Centres should speak the Queen's English?

// Do you consider yourself English or British?' //

A few years ago at work I said something was squint and they hadn't a clue what I meant .
isn't squint universal then? Skew wiff (sp?) tends to get people puzzled.
I'm not scottish and i could understand most of what was written under 'can you read Scots'. I'd always presumed it was a dialect rather than a unique language.
I am from Yorkshire and surely by the same logic we can say we are Yorkshire speakers but it doesn't seem to be mentioned on the English census.
It seems not, they thought it was used only for an eye
The Scottish dialect is no harder or easier to understand than the Geordie accent.
Unless it is Gaelic, which is a language entirely of its own.
I left the 'Scots' question alone as I have no idea how well I cope with it. I speak, write, read etc English very well.

I do object when a form tells me that I am British. If it says "other", I write English. Why shouldn't I be proud of the fact?
