An Enormous Task
Whoever forms the next government has an enormous task - restoring the general public's confidence in their fitness to govern.
The behaviour of all parties over the last few years had got worse and worse, with Personal Self-Interest very much to the fore, until we've become the laughing-stock of the world, a world which used to have so much respect for us. This needs re-winding fast, or we may descend into Anarchy.

I don’t agree that the behaviour has got worse. We’ve had a very divisive saga with Brexit and actually I don’t see that saga ending soon, merely entering a new phase.
Most if not all of the actual debates are almost painstakingly polite. It’s the exchanges at the dispatch box which are always lively.
But in the past we’ve had Ron Brown grabbing the mace, Tarzan Heseltine saving it over his head. And I remember Bernadette Devlin going for Home Secretary Reggie Maudling back in the day. It’s always had controversy and “incident” as do other parliaments around the world - often a lot worse.
And of course it’s all on the telly these days.

If there are any members of the public hurling 'abuse' at MP's, I, for one, do not blame them one iota! They have let us down badly, the remainer MP's that is (especially mine, yes YOU Helen Jones). Using every damn trick in the book to stop the democratic process. I hope and pray she comes knocking on my door (as she has in the past) during the run up to the next GE because she will get it with both barrels! I have emailed her several times on the matter and she totally ignores me.
MPs (of all persuasions) have brought it upon themselves.
Those seeking to implement Brexit have done so in such a way that their interpretation of "leaving" meant nothing of the sort. Those seeking to frustrate it have shown contempt for the electorate under the guise of being concerned with the manner of leaving.
The task set by the electorate was simple: leave the EU. They had two years to sort out the important matters which would allow life to go on sensibly unhindered and the rest could be sorted after we had left. They failed. Instead they allowed the EU to dictate the running order of those negotiations and about a year was wasted arguing over how much we'd be forced to pay for them not to cause us too much trouble. All the time the Remain element in Parliament bamboozled the country into believing it was the manner of leaving that concerned them. It wasn't. It was the fact that we were leaving at all that troubled them. Voters returned the wrong answer and they couldn't hack it.
Now it seems (if the GE returns enough "reluctant Leaver" MPs) we might be leaving with an alternative to the Lisbon Treaty that is arguably worse than the real thing. I didn't vote for an alternative Treaty with the EU. I voted to leave. I've never really asked much of Parliament. In fact, I'd much prefer it if they didn't interfere with things too much as none of them has any particular competence to deal with matters that affect people. I don't really mind them shouting and arguing the toss in Parliament and on Question Time. It keeps them out of the pubs and restricts the time they have to inflict damage on the country. But only they could do what I asked. But they let me and 17m others down spectacularly so they don't deserve the restoration of my respect and confidence any time soon.
