Hi - back in March, Tony posted this thread -

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Quizzes-and-Puzzles/Crosswords/Question1407275.html

I presume everyone that voted got an email (?) but thought I'd post an extract here for those interested, just in case -

"The historic announcement of Britain's National Bird will be made live on Springwatch Unsprung BBC2 on Wednesday June 10th 2015.

Organiser, David Lindo said: ‘The unveiling of Britain's National Bird will be an historic occasion. It will not only be a big day for the anointed bird but a huge day for Britain's entire birdlife.'

Tune in to see our National Bird crowned."

As a reminder, the following were the Top 10 Finalists -

I wasn't sure if everyone got one & wondered why I did (17th May). A friend said that they hadn't received one, hence this thread :-)
Ta for the update Maj - having a small giggle that they are to 'anoint' the bird.
As long as the bird doesn't anoint anybody, as a seagull once did to my Mum - she was not amused .

:-))

Mamya - might be fun watching them catch it...

Margo - for some strange reason, my mum always said that was good luck!

Mamya @ 1627

Is that the same as 'baste?'
Yes I told her that, can't really pass on her comment, but I'm sure you get the gist.

Just checked the TV guide, it looks as though this refers to the programme at 9:00
Birds getting the vote now too? These EU directives get more ridiculous every passing day.
Will tune in and see the result, thanks. Purrrr
Question Author
If anyone missed the programme, the vote result was -

1st Robin
2nd Barn owl
3rd Blackbird
4th Wren
5th Red kite
6th Kingfisher
7th Mute swan
8th Blue tit
9th Hen harrier
10th Puffin
Predictable....but for me a little disappointing.......x
I voted for the hen harrier. The more publicity these birds get the better,as they are a persecuted species.

I voted Red Kite.
America has an Eagle,
We have a Robin,
A pleasant enough little bird but... .. .
Great , I chose the Robin.
Owls are lovely birds but how many of us have ever seen one in real life? Robin and Blackbird should have been joint 1st.

I went for the wren - not as "sexy" as some of the others but I've always thought of it as our National Bird anyway.

The last time I saw one of the robins that live here, he was exchanging pleasantries with two starlings. They didn't seem too impressed and left the robin to play on his own.
According to R4 it was children influenced by Harry Potter that got the Barn Owl up there. Odd choice IMO. Had to be between robin and blackbird didn't it? My favourite is the long-tailed tit but that didn't get a mention :-(
