Hi, im doing A level Drama and theater studies, and there is a particular scene we have created for our preformance piece, where we are all pupets to one particular character.  The piece is based on the myth of Jason and Medea, and it is focusing on her transition to insanity.  I need to try and find the perfect song that creates the atmosphere for this piece.  We are all lined up on chairs and she manipulates us like puppets, until she starts to loose controll, and eventualy becomes violent.  I was thinking of something along the lines of classical music.  Quite powerfull, but not melodramatic and over the top.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know how long your piece is but you might try using some bits of "Danse Macabre" by Camille Saint-Saens.  If I remember my music at school, it represent all the corpses rising up from their graves and cavorting about while no-one's looking.  It's very well known (an arrangement was used as the theme to Jonathan Creek).  If you're not familiar with it you may think it's a bit hackneyed for your purposes but it's quite atmospheric and there is some pretty wild stuff in the middle that I once used to accompany a chase scene in one production, though that was a comedy.  Still, no-one else has answered you yet...

...of course I may be too late.
