The new series is not a patch on his old stuff - my kids love Psycho Mr Bean, but I think it's weak, the chav family are just annoying, the black & white film scenes are dull...but the Van Driver's Lament tonight was just fabulous..., wasn't it?!

yes um, & Whitehouse, new series, been on BBC for 3 weeks now I think - any opinions on it?
Yes...watched it briefly the first one. It was crap so turned over. They haven't moved on...

I agree um, it only gets onto the tv because the kids like it. But the lament tonight was hilarious...if it's on youtube, have a look!
very hit & miss.
I Liked the Dragon's Den take-off last week.
Not usually a fan of gratuitous swearing for comic effect but I must admit the Van Drivers' Lament made me laugh out loud
Will do....I'll put it on my Wednesday youtube list....

God I need a job..!

lol um...!!!
I remember him in his heyday. You know a comedy show is huge when it crosses over into 'pub speak'!
The trouble with sketch shows is that they do like flogging a dead horse.
I think the news eries is fabulous! the B/W 'writer & landlady' sketches are wonderful - funny but seriously dark undereath, I love the 'noir' closeups they do.

The chav family are excellent - with the clever editing showing PW apparetnly constantly yelling at the apparently constantly barking dog - very clever.

Johnny Depp - who let's face it, is one of the best character actors of his generation, thinks that Paul Whitehouse deserves that acolade - and I for one agree with him.
i for one love Harry and paul especially the American torists with the catch phrase "ISNT she probably pretty?" fab
Isn't there a bit of a trend here with some sketch shows to just repeat the same sketch with a couple of minor changes each week?

Watch the first one and you've seen the series.

I loved the old duffers deciding on exactly who is and who is not "quair" but once you've seen once you rather feel - OK got the joke now

Or is that just me?
It's not just you, jake.!!I feel the same.
'Twas always the nature of comedy - you need to establish a scenario and characters, and then allow them to develop,

Knowing E and W, you can expect a sharp left turn just about the time when you think they are predictable.
I loved the last series overall, although I found that some parts were terrible, but they were made up for by the flashes of brilliance like The Surgeons, and the Film Noir sketches.
