Running XP and have used audacity in the past. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best freeware/open-source audio mixing software? I would like to try something a bit different from audacity. Thanks in advance.

It's not exactly 'freeware' (well, not legally speaking) but I swear by Ableton Live Suite. It's very versatile and immediate and works with loads of plug-ins (eg. Autotune, FM7/8, Absynthe, Guitar Rig etc).

Reaper. Its an unlimited length trial, just a 5 second promt screen to buy it every time you open up. other than that its brilliant.

Hi SquareBear,

I want to record my own music. I have some old recordings of a friend playing drums however and I'd like to use these samples cut and re arranged as the drum-rhym-layer. I am in need of something that deals with arranging drums better than audacity. It feels like I am forever moving the cut back and forth trying to get the beat perfect. I realise there will always be an element of this of course.

Thanks again.
