It's probably half and half.  They come up with ideas and a professional hit writer will help them craft it into a pop song.  Like with Busted, Robbie Williams etc.

I'm not a McFly fan by any stretch of the imagination, but i thought that the ugly blonde one had quite alot to do with their songwriting.  He also did a some stuff for Busted i think.

indeed that was what i thought too. let's face it, you don't have someone that ugly in a pop group unless they're contributing something. they're certainly more talented than the likes of Busted. their singles so far have been pretty first-rate pop songs.

im a mcfly fan and i can tell you that yes they write ALL their own songs. James from Busted has written most of the songs with 'Tom'- the one you call ugly, however the other guys have contributed alot to the album. Tom also co-wrote 4 or 5 songs on the Busted album too. Hope that answered your question!

Although of course they didn't write their new song "You've got a Friend"! That was by Carole King, although their version is totally ripped off the James Taylor version!

They Write all their own song, apart from a few on the first album (mainly song from the that girl and 5 colours era) were co-written between Tom Fletcher (McFly) and James Bourne (Son Of Dork - Busted at the time)
