I my experience, music that appeals instantly can be linked to a short enjoyment span - indeed, the entire pop chart indulstry is based on this simple premise. The need for new sounds to replace the instantly appealing but unsatisfying music of the pop genre leads to a rapdi turnover in both production and consumption.
The 'grower' can lead to far more long-term enjoyment, and sometimes benefits from a period of marination in the back of the mind / cd rack.
