we are being changed from weekly pay to monthly pay, our firm says we will be paid our last weekly pay on 25/06/09 and we will not receive our first monthly pay 30/07/09, can tyey keep us waiting this long without any wages

The answer is yes they can do it provided they give you the required notice to vary your terms.

Most firms now pay monthly so most people starting new jobs have to wait until the month end before they get paid.

But yes, it is difficult adapting from weekly to monthly pay and good employers often put some form of transitional arrangement in place such as an interest free loan of a few weeks' pay which you would repay over 6-12 months.

when my old firm did this a few yrs ago they had to pay us compensation which i understood was the law
Compensation? For what?
