Really good question!

Apparently the Donald Fagen classic 'The Nightfly' is a cracking album for testing audio equipment.

I would also give the last Scritti Polliti Album
'White Bread Black Beer' a go just for the bass frequencies on 'the boom boom bap' alone
Play drum & bass to test out the bass response, and some classical music with lots of strings in it will be good fot the mid and top end.
the "APHEX TWINS" good for testing base
Agree with Dr Wu on Donald Fagen (see where you got your name from). Also try Fagen's 'Kamakiriad'.

Or:

Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (for detail)
Eva Cassidy - Song Bird (for vocal quality)
George Michael - Ladies and Gentlemen (disc one, for warmth).
Also, if you can get hold of a track by 10cc called 'Une Nuit A Paris (One Night in Paris)'. you're in for a treat.

I have an 'Arcam' amp and CD player with 'Mission' speakers (Bi-Wired), and these albums / tracks bring the best out of my system.

thanks folks have tried most of the above ,dont think the neighbours are as impressed as i am!
Any track on The Prodigy's 'Dirtchamber Sessions' - special tracks where Liam Howlett mixed some of his favourite music together, so lots of variation, when showing off the sound I usually stick this stuff on ;)
