the price also includes a colour printer & scanner
I think that is far too much. Look at this for 320

It has twice the memory, twice the hard drive capacity, a faster processor.
It is brand new and comes with a warranty.

You can buy a 3 in 1 printer/copier/scanner fairly cheaply too.

I am NOT recommending that particular pc, by the way, just using it to illustrate why I think your friend's pc is a bad buy.
I agree with Ethel. With prices of computers these days, for that money you can get something a lot better.

Don't get less hard drive space than about 80.

Don't buy a computer with less than 512MB RAM if you're running Windows XP.

If you ever think you'll be playing games or doing any sort of video work, then also get a dedicated graphics card, nothing integrated.
Just for further confirmation, I agree with tricktrick and Ethel.

This PC is barely fast enough to run Windows XP. 256Mb of memory is about the minimum.

A Celeron is a fairly slow CPU, and 40Gb is a small hard drive by todays standards.

The integrated graphics mean that it is probably using some of the 256Mb of RAM (so you have even less than 256Mb available).

This PC is probably fine for browsing the internet, and maybe a bit of e-mail and word-processing but not much more.

It will be slow PC with no upgrade capability.

I would either offer her far less (100 or less) or if you have 300 buy an up to date PC.

You friend may say they spent 500 or more on it when they bought it, but I am afraid in the world of PCs prices plunge for old technology.

I had an old PC a couple of years ago and could not even GIVE it away for free, I eventually donated it to a school.
don't buy anything that has less than 512MB or RAM,
like fo3nix said.

thanks to all that posted
I've just realised I wrote above saying about a hard drive of 80 capacity. Of course, I meant to type 80GB!
