Rapid Eye Movement, often done while sleeping
And that's exactly what REM make ya do, fall asleep- Gawd they're dreary!
Rapid Eye Movement - the rapid movement of the eyeballs visible through the closed lids of a sleeping body occurs when the mind is dreaming.

Dreary BOO? Everything is relative - have you ever heard Coldplay?
Yep I have andy, and agree, they are dreary too, though I have to admit to liking Fix You.

Ok, I'll rephrase my orginal post.... I find REM dreary.....that better? LOL
I love REM, they are brilliant live and anything from dreary. Everybody hurts is a bit depressing though.
In my humble opinion, REM were one of the best bands on the planet from 1981 ("Murmur") till 1992 ("Automatic..."). They are still great live, but I have to concur, on record I now find them "dreary", with the odd exception.
Apparently on one of their albums (I think it's the B-side compilation Dead Letter Office) it's stated that it actually stands for Rapid Ear Movement. But they've never suggested this anywhere else.

They chose the name out of a dictionary, having originally been known as Twisted Kites. They also considered Cans of P!ss. Which is sure as hell a name to top charts with.
music to contemplate suicide with, thats coldplay and rem
I once barred someone from my pub for playing REM on the jukebox......

*evil snigger* ;o)
NORMANTHEDOG and Brachiopod have clearly never heard the Monster album then...

"Have you seen her come around? My crush with eyeliner..."
How do you arrive at that conclusion then?

Please explain your reasoning.
