My lil' bro wants to learn electric guitar but as he tends to give things up after 5 minutes, my parents want to get him a cheap one to begin with to be replaced if he keeps it up for more than a year. Where can they get him a guitar that's is good enough to learn on for a while, but won't break the bank? Preferably online (but not ebay) because the only music shop in the town where they live is a total rip-off!

Why not eBay?

Anyhow ... Argos do some OK learner guitars ... if your parents can stretch to it go for a Squier ... licensed by Fender and IMHO a bl00dy good guitar for the money
naz is right. the starter set from argos is ideal for beginners.i bought one for my lad and it was spot on. only now that hes in his own band he's progressed to a more expensive fender strat and gibson les paul. costing me a bl00dy fortune.
If you change you mind about ebay you may find there are some good sellers offering good starter kits ..............
