I have just found out it was actually by Richie Valence and called sleepwalk. it's a great tune
My apologies spurslady if I am wrong, but I thought Sleepwalk was performed by Johnny and Santo - Haven't seen the film but the instrumental is a slow dreamy piece played on a steel slide guitar. It was also used on the Stephen King film Sleepwalkers when the mother and son dance together.
As I haven't seen the film,I can't say who played the version, you may well be correct. I have only heard it by 'Santo & Johnny' who have their name on the composing credit
