having read somewhere (d*mmed if I can remember where) that there is a sequel/addition to Romero's zombie series now in production I'm wondering if anyone can give me more information on this

Can't remember where I read it but there will be a follow up to Land of the Dead as it was a financial success - it continues on from the end of that one. John Landis also working on a movie just called Zombies as well.
