Well, the '80's was an utter musical wasteland, comparatively speaking, but I've managed to dredge up the following; some of whom were/are indeed half-decent:

New Order, Beastie Boys, Smiths, REM, Blondie, Chameleons, Sisters Of Mercy, Tears For Fears, Talk Talk, Crowded House, XTC, Robert Plant, Diamond Head, Faith No More, Soft Cell, Grace Jones, INXS, Jane's Addiction, Journey, Kate Bush, Nirvana, The Ruts, Stranglers, Siouxsie and The Banshees, The Beat and Trespass.

A-ha & UB40. its great that they're still around.
cure, sisters of mercy, mission, depeche mode, u2, hall and oates, meatloaf. All great still. Except meatloaf.
I hated Bros with the venom of a billion puff adders, something I now reserve for the likes of Westlife. Anyway, my list, off the top of me noggin, like :-) :

Abba
Blondie
The Boomtown Rats
The Christians
Crowded House
Dexy's Midnight Runners
Echo & The Bunnymen
ELO
Elvis Costello
Eurythmics
Hot Chocolate
Hothouse Flowers
The Icicle Works
Kirsty MacColl (R.I.P.)
Madness
Queen
Simple Minds
Squeeze
Talking Heads
Tears For Fears
The The
Wah! / The Mighty Wah! / Pete Wylie
The Waterboys
The Wonderstuff
XTC

No, I don't have my records and CDs in alphabetical order - it's the only way I could make sure not to miss anyone out. I'd still happily listen to and defend any of them (even Abba and the much-maligned ELO!) today, with the exception of Simple Minds, who I can now see were actually, erm, pretentious cack.
Jeez, look at the length of my post. What was B00 saying about looking totally sad?

As the answers prove a very diverse decade.

However in my opinion 1982 was the worst year for music since Bill Haley Rocked around the clock.

1982 the year of Jive Bunny and Stars on 45 don't know what day it was but Don McClean thats the day the music died. :-)

Jive Bunny was a more recent horror than you think, Stevee - 1989 to be precise, while Stock Aitken and Waterman were also at the height of their reign of terror.
At the time :

Mel & Kim
Thompson Twins
Kajagoogoo
Paul Young (probably becuase my sister loved him and didn't stop playing his records!)
Abba
Michael Jackson
Guns 'n' Roses (Apetite for Destruction... mmmm)

Really got into Jean Michel Jarre in 1988 when he released Revolutions.
