Did anybody listen to any of the Bach Christmas programmes on Radio 3 and if so, what did they think of it?

Suspect most of the subscribers to this thread probably prefer modern music, but are there a few classical fans out there somewhere?

I found it to be a bit hit or miss. Everytime I tuned in to listen to a fave piece it was usually by an orchestra or soloist which I was not familiar with and therefore I didn't enjoy it as much as I feel I should have. It was a big risk to do such a thing wasn't it?

My hubby used to work in a record shop so he has a wide range of musical taste including modern rock stuff. Classical is sometimes our music of choice, but to be honest, not very often. However, the TV advert for the Bach programmes on Radio 3 intrigued me and I loved the music used in the ads which I recognised as the Goldberg Variations which I love.

So we did tune in a couple of times. I really enjoyed the Goldberg Variations played on a harpsichord as I'd only heard it played on the piano before. We had some of the programes off and on during Christmas day. I particularly wanted to hear some of the Christmas Oratorio.

We're not classical music buffs by any means but we really enjoyed what we did hear and also enjoyed the little snippets of info that accompanied some of the pieces.

It made me wonder why we don't listen to classical music more. Maybe a New Year's Resolution for us will be to listen to more!
