This song was mentioned on Twitter today so had a listen and the tune brought back memories.

I know the David McWilliams and Marc Almond versions but I'm sure there is another version or a very similar sounding tune with female backing singers.

Anyone any idea or have I imagined it?

I poppedon Spotify, and there are double digit versions of the song, so it's more than possible you've heard another cover of it on the past.
When I read this I immediately thought of Scott Walker but i can't find it online so maybe I was dreaming too
I sometimes play it on my night thread, always the David McWilliams version.
Have to listen now :-)

Wow, there's quite a lot on there Edmund. The one I'm thinking of was sort of electro-popish and late 70s. Had a Donna Summer, I Feel Love, feel to it.
McWilliams has recorded it at least twice, so maybe it's a later one that you heard.
The version by The Avengers had (sort of) female backing vocals for the ooohhhhh aaahhhhh ahhhhh bits....?
Question Author
That was the one I listened to earlier, Mamy. It may be another song altogether that sounds like it.
Question Author
Ah ok, will look at those as well.

Maybe you're thinking of the Jacques Brel song "Jackie" that was covered by both Scott Walker and Marc Almond? It has a similar kind of arrangement to it.
There was a French version by Trade Mark that's more disco..... but they weren't female.
It wasn't this, was it Tigger?
From 1979. Very Disco-Pop, but I don't know if she ever recorded it though.

no it wasn't Jackie Mozz, but of course the fact I heard him sing it doesn't mean he recorded it
^^ if it is a fact of course

It wasn't that version, Builder. The one I'm thinking of had the iconic violin bit and with an echoy voice singing the words 'human nature' or something like that.
That's true, he may have sung it on a tv appearance or something similar.
tiggerblue10, your description sounds more like the song Supernature. Originally by Cerrone, but also covered by Hot Gossip and Erasure.

Nothing like Pearly Spencer though!
Question Author
Thats the one I was thinking of Trevor but I do think some bits of it sound like the violin tune in the Pearly Spencer song.
Sounds like sampling to me too.
