Is that a "thing" now? The photos of littered beaches this morning show 100s of discarded canisters.

Hippy crack. They are everywhere, in the parks, gutters. Sick of seeing them

Yeah...I saw the phrase hippy crack. Is it recent? I don't recall hearing about it when I was working with the homeless charity.
Back it my day it was empty bottles of Evostick and plastic bags. At least hippy crack doesn't give them glue-sniffers' rash
Not very new Pasta really, if only they'd take their garbage home.

Our guys were still doing glue and aerosols.
It's disgusting, isn't it mamya? And rather sad...my optimism has done a runner recently.
It's been a big thing for five years or so, if not longer. Demi Moore was rushed to hospital after using it in 2012 and Michelle Keegan was photo'd taking it around the same time.
I'm sure laughing gas has been used as a recreational drug for many years, I was aware of it at least 20 or 30 years ago.
Over 200 years, ever since it was invented, Prudie. These creamer canisters make it too convenient, though
Yes, alongside them you'll sometimes find balloons and often KFC/McDonalds packets as they must get the munchies afterwards.
It really took off about 2-3 years ago - it was widespread near me with Asian heritage youths but now seems to be in all communities- see the litter after the raves in Manchester/Cheshire and the Moss Side street party. But laughing gas parties have been around for over 200 years.
Putting aside the litter aspects it's perhaps no more harmful than glue sniffing or binge drinking and certainly less so than heroine, cocaine etc. It wears off quite quickly, but sometimes I see hundreds so maybe in huge quantities in can be dangerous.
What amazes me is where they buy them from in such quantities- I know they are whipped cream chargers but I've not noticed them for sale in supermarkets
Hang on, maybe it's dentists freelancing until their surgeries open fully again.

Why do they take it, what does it do to a person..make them laugh or get high or something else??
FF, buy them from supermarkets and shops like B&M, home brew shops, eBay, Amazon
We had to clear up hundreds of those canisters every Monday morning from our school playing fields over 30 years ago, so it's hardly new!
laughing gas

Faraday used to hold laughing gas parties in 1845
scenes of indecorum were of course deplored
What sad and pathetic specimens of a truly deplorable species.
Actually, Faraday was quite a good bloke, david and played a big part in the field of electromagnetism and electrolysis
Yes, its always been around and yes it is the "thing" now. Cream chargers - easy to get hold of and for some reason people like to discard them in the road. I picked several of them up off the street a while ago and put them in my bin. I couldn`t bring myself to put them in the recycling bin though - what would the neighbours think?
They're known round here as "creamers". Lots of them all over the place. Lockdown doesn't seem to have reduced that activity then!

When I was walking in the park today...not to far from the local Sally army...I was looking for them as I thought it a likely place to see them. Surprisingly I saw none.
