Just got to thinking after reading the 'remembering Nungate' thread, that I sort of view AB as my 'online village' where I've lived for a while. Do you come on here just to get answers, or to pass the time while you do other online things like me, or is it a sort of unofficial social media for you. I notice we have a hardcore group of folks who post a lot, and then a few who pop back in and then the tourists. how do you view AB?

Now i like to pop in and see how folk are doing!! A few years ago I had a tough time personally and although I hate to think on those times, i feel almost embarrased about it- I am a different person now, but a better one!! My friends on AB helped and listened to me even when I didnt listen back! I think this place helped me through a rough patch and I am greatfull. I liked...

I view it as too flamin' addictive !
It's my alternative neighbourhood, full of people I enjoy bumping into, some who I do the equivalent of hiding in the nearest shop, and others who I can chat to for hours over virtual coffee. I am just the same in real life. There are folk who you know give good advice, some who make you laugh and some who need a hand. It's like life in an over 50s sheltered scheme with children and grandchildren visiting regularly.

Yep Rowan, that's more or less my view too. By and large I like most people on here and of the ones who can be a bit iffy there's no-one I really despise, so for me AB is a nice place to be most of the time.x
AB has long been a friend to me and I have met some lovely people along the way and made a very special friendship real.
Like any street you could live on, it has neighbours both good and not so good and a few you wish would move house.

That's life though.

It's on 24/7, as are a number of other Sites, I pop in and out as it suits me, there are people I like, people who really annoy me, but then that's real life anyway, it matters not.
Hope I am not one of the ones who annoy you Baldric, I would like to be your music friend.
AB is slowly dying and is a much different kettle of fish from a decade ago. Then the ANSWER part predominated and that was what enticed me to the site.
Over the years, the ANSWER part has diminished and the social media aspect has flourished.
if that is what the contributors want...then that is what they have got.
At various times AB, to me, has been
A life line
A laugh
An alternative to C.A.B
A place to slurge when life has got to much
A place to share experiences with others when they are going through it
An encyclopedia
A place for chit chat
A window on the world and its inhabitants ;-)

(Oh! And an education...)
Mamy would you like me to flit?a Scottish word means to move.
What is C.A.B. Nailit ?

Before that happens you would seriously have to revise your musical tastes Jordy ;o)
I think you know I won't be naming names.x
Sometimes I can’t decide if I am homicidal or suicidal so I just join the gentle ,,intelligent folk in crosswords who don’t think they are bigger than answerbank and attempt to be helpful rather than belligerent :-)
No cliques,covens or haridans there.
Sort of an on-line pub.

With
Swankers
bores
little Hitlers
storytellers... both interesting and snoozfest-like.
gangs that always back their gang up even when they are clearly wrong.
And a fair few witty contributors.
A few watchers who never say much

And just like any pub, ever now and again someone has too much and says too much resulting in a mass brawl.

Luckily I like rough pubs.

I see AB as a magazine to dip in and out of. Sometimes it’s interesting, sometimes it’s boring.
I don’t contribute as much as I used to as I’m not so keen on the strife which seems to happen a fair amount these days, and find some..by no means all..of the more prolific contributors quite tedious and inwardly groan when I see theyve posted (as I’m sure some do to mine) which I ignore.
I also miss some folk who used to post in an interesting and funny way. AB for me has become a bit like woman’s weekly or people’s friend, a bit too goody goody, instead of the edginess it used to have.
You did ask ;)

Yes it used to be way more edgy, way more interesting and way more lively than now, got to agree on that x
I see AB as a first port of call when I need some help with a practical problem. Today, I needed help with something and that help came speedily and effectively. I see it as a place for a friendly chat with people I like and I see it as a place to try out my crossword/puzzle solving 'skills'. I also seem to learn something new every day, which is brilliant

I like AB and would miss it, if it folded.

Interesting as I can't explain its addiction. I've come nigh on daily for the last 10 years but consider myself a tourist out of your options. I've long thought that unless you've had a disaster that required sympathy, strong political views you like to 'debate', had a huge row and made up with an 'in' member or latched on to a few posters like a groupie you are never going to be popular. This is no slight to anyone and definitely not fishing but I don't think I've made a single friend on here nor one I know would jump to my defence. I do find it really interesting watching others' online relationships though and have formed my own assessment of what people are like. Like a village I suppose yes.
As tilly2 said I would miss it if it folded, but as we are all being honest on here can I say ,what really *** me of is your good morning thread read it some of you it’s the same every day, and you’re bastardisation of the English language, poota ,and pressies, and grown women speaking like children
