How would you describe it? Which genre would fit it best? Can you think of any celebrities with similar voices?

Reminds me of Billy Connolly.
You're an alto, like me. You are pushing it and your voice sounds harsh. Do some classical training - or even hymns, anything. I have a 3 octave range and can (if pushed) sing bass and mezzo.
Seriously, you can hold pitch (which is good) and you are clear. You have a good, strong voice. The bit I heard means that you are definitely forcing it and will eventually damage your voice. Please, take some breathing lessons - a decent choir should do it. :)
Which genre would fit it best?

Folk imo.
I'd go along with that, tony, but there is a good voice there which could be even better with not too much work. :)
Maybe she should post another speakpipe link with her singing another type of genre or genre's of her singing voice.

agree Jourdain

also agree - join a choir and do some practice/training
Whatever you do, do NOT try and get classical training. Nothing ruins the true sound of a voice more than all that operatic rubbish, huge swells, vibrato, distortion of vowel-sounds - you end up sounding like another musical instrument rather than a human being singing.

You have a normal 'folk' voice, i.e. strong, unsullied, direct. Just the voice to sing real ballads and folksongs. But you do need sympathetic help in getting your breathing better, which would help from wandering out of key.

Most places in the British Isles still have folk-music clubs, some better than others of course, where you might find like-minded people who meet to help each other improve their singing. Might be worth checking out.

Good luck (and PLEASE steer clear of opera!)

I just played it, honeyS, and our two pet budgies stopped merrily chortling, there heads tipped to the side, and looked at me completely puzzled as if to say What The Funicular.....that should probably sum it up :-)

To answer your 3 questions:-

1. Flat as a proverbial pancake
2. 'Tone deaf' genre
3. Probably Janet Street-Porter, in the shower, but bearing in mind I've never been in the shower with JSP, this far, I hasten to add, I may be wrong.

I've now got to go to resuscitate my poor budgies and restore their faith in music. :-)
Oh c'mon Yogi - don't beat about the bush - tell us what you reeaally think ...

:-]

Dx

PS : If I have nightmares involving JSP and a loofah you'll get the bill for my counselling sessions.
Hi SD

Cripes, did you hear the ending?....my budgies almost fell off their perches.

Goes to prove one thing, sunny-dave....that Peter P, Jourdain, tonyav, bainbrig and apathy may need hearing aids :-)

The Chair is spot on though.

If I ever dream of Janet Street-Porter, you'll be the first I'll come to for therapy :-)
^ spathi not apathy....predictive text really is annoying.
At least it wasn't Auto-Tuned ...
Don’t give up the day job. That was dreadful.
Dunno how to tell you this, sd....but you appear to have changed into a pink, but rather cute, elephant :-)
Boto doesn't need a hearing aid :-)
So....Yogi's gone off JS-P.....and has the hots for a cute pink ellie... :-)
You know me, gnessy.....to quote my friend, the great Robbie Vincent......If it moves, funk it :-)
What genre would fit best?.... Pub:-)
Possibly an RNID meeting ... ?
