Does anyone know the name of the simple tune we could all play on the piano as kids? Not chopsticks, it is much slower than that and is played within one octave (I think).

It starts with three of the same notes.

I've tried humming it to Shazam but I'm very off key

That's it! Hearts and Souls it is! Hurrah, thanks so much one and all.

So, follow up question - do you think this song by Train sounds like that tune? It's been driving me up the wall

Well done, Sir A. That's the one!

BA! Definitely!
Question Author
Yes hc. Train were in an interview on radio 2 a couple of weeks ago. The song was deliberately written to sound like Heart and Soul!

The best version of course!
Question Author
Oh! Well that was a convoluted way to ask a question but it worked so I'm happy.
Thanks again
That was a nice thread, Hc. I enjoyed that but my fingers are aching now from playing the table. :-)

Thank you.
Question Author
Haha! I was doing that, too :D
Thank you for BA, hc!
I only thought of it because the first three notes are the same.
My sister used to play the top part on the black keys and I'd play the bottom part on the white keys, so that it sounded like Les Dawson playing!

This thread has bought back happy memories of killing tunes on the piano - tunes I'd completely forgotten about.
Lovely Les Dawson, how I miss him still

My maternal grandparents had a pianola. I used to love pedaling that as the tunes played. I would also pretend to be playing. :-)

My paternal grandparents had an ordinary piano. I just used to tinkle away on that one.

My granddad could play all sorts without any sheet music. He was brilliant and very tolerant of my tinkling.

Our neighbour had a pianola which I used to play. It was a huge hulking thing with the rolls in pigeon holes reaching the ceiling. When he died he left everything to my parents and I wanted them to keep the pianola but they wouldn't. :(
Yes, the pianola dominated the sitting room!
Well done GenuinecLAss! Yes Train definitely pinched that tune! I could sing Frank Sinatra, The way you look tonight as well to this tune, same notes, but not all in the same order!
Please don't, Patsy!
Question Author
I see what you mean, Patsy
I'm going to have to look on Youtube now. I can't remember the Frank Sinatra song.
Very similar Tilly! And don't be rude! :-)
Here it is.

I really must relearn to play using that keyboard i bought a couple of years ago. So want to but can't raise the enthusiasm with other things seeming more entertaining than forcing myself to practice from scratch again. So many things I want to do yet can't seem to get started on. Don't know why.
OG, I bet that once you start to play again, you will pick it up really quickly.

But yes, doing it is another thing.....
