In my view, this is the definitive version - unequalled for passion and intensity.

Of course, a song as strong as this is almost impossible to damage, no matter who sings it, and lord knows, plenty have tried!

It's an X-Factor-type show staple - along with Nessun Dorma - because it's possible to carry the audience along on a wave of emotion created by the sheer power of the song, regardless of how horrible the actual rendition is at the time.

I agree. Another one who died too young.
You are, of course, entitled to your opinion but:

I usually prefer the originator's version of any song, but there are exceptions, and this is one of those.

Another couple of the top of my head are -

'Til There Was You' by The Beatles
With A Little Help From My Friends - Joe Cocker.

This could roll ...
Hi Patsy, it's a personal preference isn't it, I have always preferred Alexandra Burkes version, which some detest.
I was a fan of her version too.
Please will someone put 'The Osmonds' version on. I think they harmonise beautifully.
I heard Jeff Buckley's version on my car radio. I'd never heard of him, but bought his album straight away. Beautiful version of a great man's, song.
Simple & Beautiful
I think Alexandra Burke is an excellent singer, but some songs should be left alone - and this is one of them.

Oh, I forgot to but my fave cover in - the vaporises the shout-fest of Whitney Houston!

The song has been done to death by more than enough people already.
There was a good prog on radio 4 about this http://bbc.in/1FxTPdi
I don't agree andy, I think AB sang it beautifully.
hereIam - I have no problem with the way it was sung, my issue is that it is sung at all, apart from the original, and Jeff Buckley's versions, all others I don't enjoy.
Question Author
Yes it's thanks to the great poet and song writer Leonard Cohen. I have the 'Best of' CD, I love it. Not everybody's cup of tea but so much respect for the man. I do like Alexandra Burke's version but Geoff sings with such passion, so special. I quite like Rufus Wainwright version too.
For Cupid

Your issue is that it is sung at all, do you mean she had no right to sing it ??
Of course not!

I simply mean that I don't like any other versions - just my personal taste, nothing more than that.
Thanks mamya.xx
