Here you are then, Yilly.
Great song, but I didn't know that you can make wine from lilacs.

Thank you, Yont. I think you can make wine from any flowers really. Not that I do.
I prefer someone else to do the bare feet squashing thing.

Fabulous song.
Question Author
Just listened to the version I found. It's dreadful, people singing along with her.
Yont's is better.
Glad you liked it, Yilly.
Think Animal/Vegetable/Mineral ...

Robert Plant is an animal (human), named after a vegetable (plant), who sings music named after a mineral (rock).

Does that help?
Good evening, Tony. I've only just realised that Robert Palmer was a member of the Alan Bown Set, although it looks as if he didn't join them until after they'd recorded this great track. (So it's just a weak excuse to play one of my favourite Northern Soul tracks)

I liked this Robert Plant track but have never been sure what it's about. And of course there were many Led Zep classics, especially Trampled Underfoot

I'm getting mixed up again. Plant, Palmer.

Ellipsis, A palm is a plant too so that doesn't really help. Thanks for trying though.

Mr Tilly has just seen my OP and has laughed out loud! He's said, 'You're going to get some stick for that!' How right he is.
Some stick? A big log, more like
Question Author
He did mention abuse, too.
Thanks Tilly and Tony, lovely to hear it again, she had such a distinctive voice, recognise it anywhere.

You are welcome LB. Have a listen to this, see if you like it. I love it.

My favourite

Dunno what happened then, should have read my favourite Robert Palmer track.
"Big log" is American trucker slang for a long stretch of highway - "red-eyed and fevered with the hum of the miles". RP has said more than once in interview that the song uses this as a metaphor for his insatiable sex drive.
Question Author
Oh, rightho, jeffa. Thanks for that info.

(Actually I had missed Factor's clever connection. I might give him best answer)
...with Elkie Brooks (she's a singer)

And she stands up when she plays the piano!
..in a nightclub
Question Author
She wanted to be Betty Grable.
