Knew this would happen if I gave in and got a new phone.

It won't let me make calls or texts...says emergency calls only...I have used it for the past couple of days with no problems.

Have I pressed something I shouldn't have? There is loads of credit on it.

Thanks..Gx

That happens to me when I'm in an area with a poor reception/signal
Question Author
Never had a problem with reception before....won't it be the same as my old phone?
Try switching it off and back on xx
Like Pixie said.
Take the battery out for 20 secs and reinsert it, this usually solves a million problems.
Are you still on the same network?
Question Author
I am trying that....actually looking for the switch....I said I was too dippy to get a new phone..... I will pour a glass...find the instruction book and charge up the landline.... :-(
Question Author
Same everything.....put old sim card in...well I didn't....a child did....I will conquer this!
What phone have you got?
I'm with O2. If I top up £10 per month I get 500 free mins to either other O2 phones or landlines,as long as it's from my postcode. So far I have only had 1 free call, the rest i've been charged for. Keep meaning to ring them but what the heck, everyone else rips me off, so why not O2 as well.
Mobile phones are configured so that they'll normally only connect to the service that you're subscribed to via your SIM card. However if your phone provider can't provide a signal where you are, calls to 112 (the EU-wide emergency number) can be connected via any available service.

As Psybbo suggests, your phone is telling you that it can't recognise a signal associated with whichever company provided the SIM card. I can think of four possible reasons:
(a) your service provider is experiencing problems providing a signal from local transmitters ;
(b) your SIM card is faulty ;
(c) your SIM card isn't inserted properly ;
(d) the phone is faulty.

Try removing the SIM card, wiping it and reinserting it.

Also check the network status of your phone provider. (Type 'network status' and the name of the provider in Google).
On/off button probably on the top edge or sides?

Phew...thank you all...that seems to have worked....blasted thing kept asking me....How are you today?......Lord save us...my phone cares.

Anyway I got it open, removed everything, blew on it and put it back.

It's only a cheap £35 Tesco...my last one was £12...☺ and I only changed because I wanted a camera to photograph ideas in craft shops etc..

It would be a waste for me to buy anything snazzier.....it's lost, flat or in Ireland on its own...

Anyway, thank you all for that....landline is iffy and while I could do without a phone for a few days the home needs to be able to contact me...xx
see?? we knows everything! :-)

I knows you do, Neti....where else would I go these days? My first nervous venture into AB was a motoring question and without help on here I would have been pretty much fleeced......

Okay! I give in....all day today it changes to emergency calls only...battery out and in and it's fine....for a while.

I have found my old phone and put the sim card in there....loads of messages that haven't appeared on the new phone despite it being the same number and same everything really.

No patience for this so it will go back and I shall stick to the old but faithful cheapy.

What did I tell you, Tony.....☺
Cheer up Gness, son had his pocket picked, now minus one bloody expensive mobile
Question Author
Sorry to hear that, Psyb...at least I won't be out of pocket....that wasn't meant as it sounds.......x
Was this in London, Psybbo.
My new note is beggaring about, keeps cutting off, so it's back to the shop to be fixed while it's still under guarantee (only 4 months old) so will ne using a real old fashioned slide phone for the foreseeable, I will be so embarrassed and no mobile FB or AB, how will I cope!
