My friend used to have a programme which let you write your own music, using a keyboard on the screen and loads of instruments.  Does anybody know of something like this I could download or do you think I need to buy a programme?

Theres a good magazine called 'computer music' which always comes with a CD that usually has lots of demo's of the latest products.  I downloaded a good programme called 'Virtual Mozart', Another one is 'Fractal Tune Smithy'.  Ejay, Magix, cakewalk and cubase, make great and affordable software also.  There are also a couple of really good 'games' for the playstation e.g.  Music 3000 and and Ejay clubworld. Look on the 'Absynth' website also.

Hi justineo, when I had a 'SoundBlaster' sound card, that came with lots of extras including a keyboard on the screen, etc, so that you could write your own music. I never used it and I don't know if it - or any other sound card - comes with such things any more. Ask in your local computer shop, then when you know the name of what you're looking for, shop around on the net for the best price.
