definition of bewilderment

yesterday I went to ToysRus to buy a "tool kit" for a 4yr old, I am an OAP so have never entered thru the doors before, bewildered I wandered along aisle after aisle of boxed toys from floor to ceiling for over 30 mins just thinking to myself however do small kids choose with sooo much on display,still couldnt find what I wanted and eventually asked for help.
Do I think kids of today are spoilt ? yes I really do.

Oh yes my sister has 3 girls and spends hundred and hundreds on them each year one year they all go iPads but still had loads of other stuff

What is it with the kids (and adults) of today?

If my mum had given me a big box of lego and an iPad, I wouldn't have looked twice at the iPad.

Crazy isn't it! I've been in to look for things for my nephew and it scares me, keep getting nearly taken out by kids riding round on trikes and things.

You can even get fake McDonald's food with the kitchen stuff!

I tend to get more little things for my nephews, simple things like little cars,books, colouring books and such, a handknitted hat... and we love the Melissa and Doug range, lovely wooden toys for young children.

A friend at a former work was pondering over buying her child one of those Ds computer game thing worth hundreds. I can't get the concept of spending that much money on someone so young, especially as attention span tends to wonder and the potential problems with them taking them into school etc...

My other nieces are 2 & 3 and yes they can use iPads but their mother is Danish and insist on more traditional toys so last year we bought a toy kitchen and dressing up clothes and will get them similar this year

One of the nicest days was when we suited and booted the children and went for a walk. The idea was to find as many wild flowers as possible and then come home and identify them. We only pulled one of each, and even managed to find a Star of Bethlehem (we photographed it).
The children really got into the spirit of the walk, and such excitement!!

For my nephews 4th birthday this year my sis and her oh got him a motorised child's Audi car that has an adapter for iPods. So they also got him an iPod. Oh, and an Alsatian. Mental.

Then I've been asked to lend them money 3 times since because they are skint. It makes me furious.

Last year for his birthday I got him a little scooter from tesco that made engine noises. I was £15 and he adored it. Still does.

thanks folks now I dont think its just me turning into a bah humbug grumpy old git.I dont want go back again, xmas must be a nightmare, I found it quite scary and I nearly got knocked down by an older kid trying out a scooter in store.

an afterthought, if kids get an Ipad at four, by the time they are eight what on earth will their expectations be ?

It always shocks me at work to hear what all the children have and are getting.

Maybe you wouldhave been better off trying the Early Learning Centre..I always bought lil pasta's toys there.

Parents buying ipods/pads are just making more trouble for later. Children are given too high expectations...and aren't being treated as children.

They have to be trained early to be good little consumers.
When my nieces come they play with the dogs and ignore the computer games.

I posted on here a couple of months ago about the little girl next door,who's 10 years old, having a stretch limo to take her and friends to MacDonalds,and got shot down by a few on here.The same child came round the other day wearing glasses,so I said "oh don't you look nice in your glasses",her Mum said oh they're not real it's just fashion!

its not so much that its an ipad that amazesme - its the cost of the ipad that i cannot understand - spending that much on a child is crazy, especially since at that age they will probably break it and not have any idea how to use most of the functions

why not get a cheaper version for them~?
why not get a kids laptop for them?
