This is a genre that I know little or nothing about but I have a group of scooter fans coming to visit over the bank holiday weekend and I know from last year that they like this kind of music.
Can anyone recommend any good compilation albums and suggest some groups that they may like?

With thanks.

I've got two of the best compilations, I think. One is just calledNorthern Soul Vol 2. It contains the classic songs - Do I Love You? Getting Mighty Crowded and The 'In' Crowd.

The other is called Out On the Floor with more classics - Queen of Fools, The Snake and Backfield In Motion. Enjoy them!

Wigans Ovation,I remember they had a single called Skiing in the Snow. Can't think of any more at the moment.
You'd be better off asking them to bring some of their own CDs. They may be less than keen on the mainstream compilations.

You really need my brother for this but I remember he had the Toys lovers concerto, and Tainted love by Gloria Jones - he was really into Northern Soul but those two songs are the only ones I remember from his collection hope it helps a bit.
Have spoken to my brother and he's going to email me some song titles later on and then I'll post them here for you. Will that help?
Well, unless you want to kill your party before it starts, do NOT play them the Wigan's Ovation version of Skiing In The Snow - it's like playing a version of All Right Now by Westlife! You need the original by The Invitations.

My advice is to pop along to your local library and get some Northern compilations out, there are loads and loads of them - and failing that, if you Google 'Northern Soul' you find masses of titles, then go to UTube and download them off there.

Thank you all for the replies so far. I'll do a little more digging but feel free to keep suggesting stuff ;0)
there's some great northern soul compilations out there - i'm sure you can go to the library and get a few cds. if they're scooterists, possibly get a few mod albums like the Jam, maybe a bit of the Clash that sort of thing. Madnes always goes down well at these parties too. definitely go for the compilations - and if you really want to treat them - clear a good space on the dancefloor and provide them with salt - stand back and watch them dance!

Toes - i suggested a compilation cd as WyeDyed clearly is just trying to accommodate some visiting scooterists - clearly he wouldn't want to play an entire album of any particular artist as at least a compilation album will cater to more of the audience. I don't see why a true northern soul fan would never listen to a compilation album - my ex loved them. As for the salt - yes, its for dancing xx

Anything jump out at you?

Oh, and from the folks last year, many of them were the, erm, wrong side of forty (like me)
Question Author
Yes, that's the one I have, WyeDyed, but the others are not that great, in my opinion. Try and get hold of 'Out On the Floor' CD as this one contains the classic songs including my favourite 'Queen of Fools. Have a listen to these on You Tube to see if you agree. Not sure how the link works otherwise I would doit for you.
