I am very disappointed that a message I posted earlier was considered to have come from a previous ABer; I do not feel the sarcasm was necessary.

It is remarkable how the syntax and general subject matter of past users seems to be sought out by regular posters and used against the occasional users. As far as I can see this alienates the occasional poster who is accused of being a 'troll'.

Just how is this site meant to acquire and retain new members with this kind of hostility?

Sometimes it is so glaringly obvious that despite the best efforts of the poster to hide behind a second/third identity they inadvertently reveal themselves to people who pay attention.

Now that the site nutter has been banished (he accused everyone of being everybody else) very few are accused erroneously....
I wrote out a long (ish) reply on your last post, so I too was miffed it vamoosed, lol.

Lomg answer made a helluva lot shorter, I've never thought you were anyone other than who you are now (eh? LOL), i'm sure alot of other people don't either. Report those who say otherwise, let Ed & Co deal with them :-)
some posting styles are unmistakable, I have to agree with jack.
There are people on here who seem to have appointed themselves as some sort of AB police.

I'm not sure why you would be accused of being someone else Eccles, I always recognise your name and thought you were a well known member.
haven't you just had a similar thread pulled?
That seems a little harsh, EvianBaby.

Sometimes posters give themselves away by either style, or content. Many folks on here are wary of folks masquerading under additional, or 'new' names........and often like to let the 'new' user know that they have been rumbled to prevent any potential nastiness.
Sara, do you mean me? If so, no. Not posted much else today.

You might see it as a bit harsh Jack but I've seen many a time new members join, ask what might be considered an unusual first question and get completely lambasted when it appears they were genuine after all. It must come over as a very hostile place to newbies sometimes. Also, in terms of one particular user who keeps appearing to return with fairy tales, if they are not offensive (and the ones I have seen are not, just odd) then does it really matter? They clearly keep people entertained.
it does matter if they've been banned, because that generally means they will resort to whatever behaviour got them banned in the first place.

and no, my last comment was aimed at the OP.
When is a Banned User not a Banned User........?

When a % of the forum find them amusing, perhaps?.......or perhaps Banned Users ought to stay Banned Users?

The fantasist to whom you refer is a Banned User......and the sooner she takes that on board the better.
it depends what the fairy tales are about (ie a battered parrot)

I dont like the idea of genuine people being duped into believing some quite harrowing tales. I also dont believe that every newcomer gets treated like a potential troll.
But it's not up to other 'normal' users on here to judge that. I have no idea why that person was banned but it's obvious there is nothing anyone can do about stopping a banned user coming back with a different name so why not just let them get on with it and when it becomes a problem because they start causing trouble then the Ed can deal with it.

Caz, clearly a lot of people found those threads amusing. Also, I did not say every new user, but a lot.
Indian Summer in East Street ?
<<beginning to see why Ed removed the previous post now. Nowt wrong with the initial question, but it leads to "discussions" like this one....
you found the battered parrot story amusing?

what about the people who thought it was real?
Well, I've said what I think so I'll but out now.
Caz, please read my answers. I did not say I found it amusing. I don't think I participated at all.
Sarcastic? Would any of us ever be sarcastic on here?
Oh give it a rest!
If a post offends you for whatever reason then report it. Don't answer it. It's up to the moderators to decide what gets pulled and if no-one panders to the offenders they'll soon get tired of the game and take their ball elsewhere.
