I am thinking about Hootie & The Blowfish first album massive ,then although the next 10 albums have been really good ,sales were very poor ,
The Darkness once again first album massive brilliant tour ,next album flopped .
Gerry Rafferty City to City massive all over the world, followed with superb albums but once again poor sales BTW City to City has been reissued with a CD of Demos

Can any ABers think of similiar instances.s where an artist has had massive sales then very poor sales.

Terrence Trent D'Arby, whose follow-up sold less than 1,000 copies and was deleted sharpish!

Also, the last dog's breakfast foisted on the public by Kevin Rowland, whom Alan McGhee of all people thought was an artist deserving of public attention - he was of course, wrong!

Stone Roses and Happy Mondays had more than one hit album...

I knew the Happy Mondays struggled but that is the first I've heard of The Stone Roses!

Didn't the Roses split fairly shortly after 'making it' anyway?
Stone Roses were great :-)

The Arctic Monkeys first album was a work of genius and a massive success. They could never really live up to it after that.
EvianBaby - i think the Question refers more to sales figures - epic / disasterous, rather than cricital or personal opinion.

HOUSEMOUSE Jusin Hawkins is off the Stuff and The Darkness have reformed and will soon be back on the road ,Catch them if you can. BRILLIANT
It's classic second album syndrome isn't it?

I always put it down to the fact that the material for the first album could be years old whereas for the second it has to be new so then that's when the pressure comes.

To further complicate it, how about artists that were big, flopped and then made it back again?!
Tracy Chapman was massive and then disappeared, she even won the best new artist Grammy. I bought her eponymous debut album which sold a bucketload then she just fell from grace.
