anything by Leonard Cohen
... or The Smiths eg. off "The Queen Is Dead"- "I know it's over" (starts "oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head..."). Actually it's more dark humour than depressing, although some of the earlier stuff is just dark eg. "This night has opened my eyes" off "Hatful of Hollow"- "In a river the colour of lead emerse a baby's head wrap her up in the News Of The World dump her on a doorstep, girl this night has opened my eyes and I will never sleep again..." see http://www.lyricscafe.com/s/smiths/hatful_10.htm
One of my favourites is Porcupine Tree. The tracks "How is your life today" (sample: The letters pile up in the hallway, Junk mail and bills from the catalogues, And the neighbours have guessed 'cos I've cancelled the milk And they1 don't hear your voice through the walls anymore..) and "Feels So Low" are the most crushingly bleak relationship breakup songs... Nice!
Actually both of the songs you quote are songs with a positive note - Everybody Hurts saying er... That everybody gets down, but you can get through it, and Street Spirit with it's coda 'Immerse yourself in love'. They are fragile songs and beautiful and aware of the world's capacity to be depressing, but overcome it.
Anything Pink Floyd. All together now:

Goodbye cruel world

I'm leaving you today

Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye

Goodbye all you people

There;s nothing you can say

To change my mind,

Goodbye.

A song called Blasphemous Rumours by Depeche Mode is pretty depressing. Its about a girl who tries to kill herslef and a girl who is killed in a car crash and how God didn't stop it!!
seasons in the sun or the new song by Ronan Keating "If tomorrow never comes"
Frankly, anything by Ronan Keating depresses me. His mere existence is enough to make me dispair.
it's gotta be 'no surprises' by radiohead
"Close My Eyes Forever" is a rather depressing duet by Lita Ford & Ozzy Osbourne. Metallica's "One" is deep dark & gloomy in content. "Billy Don't Be A Hero" by Bo Donaldson & the Haywoods is depressing pop and "He SStopped LOving Her Today: is somber country.
Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven", about his young son who died. Read the lyrics at: http://www.yimpan.com/Songsite/Lyric/index.asp?sid

'If You Could Read My Mind Love' by Gordon Lightfoot, 'Still In Love With You' by Thin Lizzy, 'The Chain' by Fleetwood Mac - my list is endless, and most revolve round betrayal and loss, always a good subject for a song.
