How easy is Classical Gas to learn?

Right, my son has been at this all night, he's got the first bit, sounds quite right, (while playing it in the garden, even the neighbour getting out of his car hesitated going into his house waiting for the big bit to kick in) but he hasn't got to that point yet! How long will it take? Don't want to dampen his enthusiasm but i think I'm going to dream de de de de...de de, and the sound of a metronome. Is it just for the experts or can he do it?

Yes, that's the easy bit. To get the 'big bit' to sound right is a major undertaking. After twenty years my fingers still refuse to perform the task to my satisfaction! However, the fingering isn't particularly hard - I just hate playing above the first couple of positions. I'm sure if he sticks at it he'll get it pretty quickly. You do need to remember that there's a big orchestra doing that bit on the record as well!

Sorry Agent4 Classical Gas is an instrumental piece of music, and according to the website Classicalgas.com "One of the must influencial instrumental hits of all time". Mason Williams had a UK number one (I think) with it, I remember my mam loved it. But it is mainly a guitar, so I was referring to learning it on the guitar. I didn't realise there was a website till I looked to find the answer to your question. There's a spoof thing going around lately with someone "playing" it on the Ukalele, so it's kind of caught on again.
