When in music do I put in "-" between notes?

What on earth do you mean by a "-"...what does note matching mean? <P><BR>If you mean rests then they are used in musical notation in place of notes to keep the beats in the bar correct.
You might mean ties, to let you know that notes of the same pitch are not played individually, but only the first one, theen it is held for the length of the notes tied together.
