Why don't motorists flash waiting pedestrians about 100 yds in advance?
Then a) the pedestrian doesn't have to wait and see if the driver is going to stop and b) the motorist doesn't have to slow down.

Will you take the risk? After being hit by a car....I wouldn't. Lesson learnt and all that.

just waiting for an approaching car to flash it's lights to let someone out of a sideroad and then splat ...
What if they have poor eyesight.
What if they are not even looking at you..
What if some other road user takes it as a ...GO ON... and pulls out into your path.
You really should be backing off alittle where people may be crossing.

Make sure you carry a your insurance details with you, as you are bound to be exchanging them if you think you can control the roads by flashing your lights.

Hey calm down ! it was only an idea - I'm not planning to put it into action.
Engage brain before adopting 'typing crouch' at keyboard?
Mustard just stop and think about this...most mornings when going to work, I travel along an extremely busy 'A' road. The traffic is pretty well nose to tail...all going along in first or second gear at best. often coming to a complete halt. There are single lanes in each direction.
Half way along this road is a school crossing...the kids gather up at the lights waiting for them to change to red, so that they can cross.
But as the traffic is always creeping along at rush hour, some bright spark driving a car thinks they are doing them a favour by flashing them and inviting them to cross the road before the lights change.
The only problem is some motorbike riders seem to think it is quite acceptable to overtake all the cars that are just about standing still around this crossing area and just weave between them.
We all know the bikes should'nt be overtaking at a crossing...we all know that the kids are just going to school. But the one thing that brings them together.. is the car driver flashing their lights.

Enough said...I'm off to clean the ice off my headlights...I might just need to flash them..!

Well, I have seen some stupid questions on here but this one takes the biscuit.
Here, here, Merlin. And to think he/she probably holds a driving licence.

Magicmerlin and Derekpara, I have already indicated that this was only an 'idea'
and obviously not a good one, so why jump on the bandwagon when I have already addressed this?
No target like a soft target eh.

Zebra crossings. As you approach a zebra crossing

look out for pedestrians waiting to cross and be ready to slow down or stop to let them cross
you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing
allow more time for stopping on wet or icy roads
do not wave or use your horn to invite pedestrians across; this could be dangerous if another vehicle is approaching
be aware of pedestrians approaching from the side of the crossing

A zebra crossing with a central island is two separate crossings (see Rule 20).

LOL...in blood?
I have an idea that is just as good as Mustardmit's.

Let's give car drivers a sub machine gun so they can shoot anybody that is near to a pedestrian crossing. That way motorists won't have to slow down or stop.
