Hoping to take my wife to Edinburgh for her b/day, would appreciate any tips on best way to get from airport to City centre and if there are any travel type tickets you can purchase for bus hopping etc within the city and the outskirts.

Lothian Buses are the local service. They have a very frequent Airport - City Centre bus(service 100). Obviously taxis can be used too.
For travel within the city you can get an all-day ticket for £3.20 also from Lothian Buses. They are the maroon coloured ones.

There is a shuttle bus from the airport to the city centre. Not sure about ticket for bus hopping - I've always just walked everywhere, but worth checking out on line.

When I said maroon I actually meant maroon & white and also some are now red & white. They all have Lothian Buses or Lothian Transport written on them.
Only one jumper bedknobs? Must have been July or August. :)
I agree with HowardKennitby. Lothian Buses are extremely frequent, comfortable and direct. Adult single fare £3.50 Adult return £6.

Thanks to all. I was thinking of getting a hotel a mile or so from the centre so for convenience thought about a day bus pass to get me in and around there
phew, for a moment I thought timber was going to Aiwith the "jumper" ntree.....

Is Fishers seafood still going?....used to be a good dive for nosh and a decent wine list in Leith, though they are in the centre as well. nungate will know.
Aintree.....
You've already been given all the info you need in terms of the buses etc. Just wanted to say that Edinburgh has a fantastic bus service - it makes the whole tram debacle just so bizarre!!!

Hope you have a wonderful time in my home town :o)
There's still a Fisher's down in Leith. Lots of places to eat down there these days. There's the tourist buses that you can hop and and off to go visit the places of interest. Hope you enjoy your trip. (though if you're coming this time of year, bring lots of woollies! Oh, and comfy shoes, it's a great city for walking about
