My son went to start his car and when turning the ignition a noise came from the engine and a letter F appeared on the dash display. We checked the obvious battery, leads etc. and found very little oil showing on the dipstick but no warning light had appeared. We replenished the oil but the engine will not start. Is there a means of resetting the fault code to enable the engine to operate.
Any help would be appreciated.

Searching the net seems to suggest a porblem with the auto gearbox, water getting into a connection or a faulty crankshaft sensor

Many thanks Hopkirk and mdoo98. My son has managed to borrow a diagnostic device to identify the code meaning. We will try the battery disconnection and also follow the advice on link to honestjohn. Again, many thanks to you both.
Read out the radio code before you disconnect the battery, if you don't have it written down!

Eureka, the diagnostic gizmo requested a reset of code. Insert key and bingo, up and running. True to my nickname I told him " It wont last !!! "
Fingers crossed.
